What is the difference between Goblins & Gremlins?
Found myself asking this today, here is what I found...
Gremlins were once close relatives of the common Goblin. Many similarities between the two remain, though the main diference between the two lies in their motivations. Goblins seek power and prestige, while Gremlins seek wealth and possessions. This sublte diference led the two races down very seperate paths. Gremlins seperated from Goblin society and founded a great city in the swamps west of Briar Hollow, where they worshipped Tupamaros; the god of greed. (His shrine is still guarded by swamp dragons in the ruins of the Gremlin city) Following the path of Tupamaros, the Gremlins devoted themselves to a personal code of business. They treated everything in life like a business dealing, always seeking to profit from every action. For a time this led to a prosperous civilization. Eventually though, greed and jealousy would destroy the great city in the swamp (which burnt down, fell over and then sank into the swamp). Scattered to the ends of Grimmwold, Gremlins found ways to fit into other societies. They were literate ambitious mercherants willing to fill whatever needs they could find; working so hard that in almost any city you could find a gremlin book keeper, shopmaster or contract writer. They never again would congregate in any one place. Male gremlins were sold into "apprentiships", which magically bound them into service to the highest bidder until they were old enought o set out on their own. Female gremlins were sold into marriages similar to apprenticeships, only without an expiration date. Thus Gremlin society continues into the current age of the world.
